STRAIGHT LINES ARE A HUMAN INVENTION (27 SEPTEMBER 2019 - 26 OCTOBER 2019) SID MOTION GALLERY
Dafna is an artist based in London. Her practice consists of a range of different skills such as photogrpahy, video, curation and collaboration. Her work is exhibited in many places around Europe such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), Gdansk National Museum (Poland 2019) and London Alternative Photography Collective (Amsterdam 2018) . On the 17th october we attended her exhibition in Sidmonton Gallery based in 24a Penarth Centre Hatcham Road, SE15 1TR. This specific exhibition was of one artist named Dana Talmor who creates excellent pieces of art. Initially my first impression of her work was that it was very repetitive. I presumed the theme of her work was something in relation to a landscape. Her work included a range of different tones of blue consisting of different shapes and pattern merged into one frame. Although she exhibited quite a few pieces they all were very similar in terms of the same patterns, size and colour. With all the shades of blue I instantly thought it was supposed to imitate the colours of the sea. However I loved the way her pieces were presented, they were all framed with a high gloss black wooden frame which really added an element of satisfaction to her work . All the colours in the pieces perfectly coordinated. During our visit she informed us on every detailed step in the process of creating these pieces of work, this was very intriguing as it was a completely different technique/ process than Initially thought. I assumed this type of art wouldn't of been so time consuming but she surprised me.
These are my three favourite pieces. I feel like they all include amazing pieces of landscapes. Although they're only small pieces it captures the best part to the images. I love how she's left gaps in these pieces it reminds of a physical process technique called a joiner. These are one image made up of several different images. each piece contains so much detail and they clearly represent what her practice is about. For my investigation I have gained great ideas for how to exhibit my body of work (3 pieces) I intend to present mine very similar to hers. This entails printing my photographs at least A3 or A2.They will all be printed on high quality paper to ensure that crisp quality. This would then look great with a thin black frame to finish.
