Marek chaloupka is an Senior Visual Designer, Photographer, Cinematographer delodepote based in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. Chaloupka uses this interesting technique and new perspective on the human figure through hands and feet photographed through a milk glass. He also lets the photographs have the ability to feel a variety of emotions whether its happy, sad, scared and just about any other emotion that comes to mind. This series is meant to create fear and doubt with the contrast between the black and white in the shots , which actually calls us to realise that the only thing that's bringing about fear is fear itself because the shots don't feature anything frightening at all. His work relates to my theme as he represents the feeling of being trapped by using hands and feet .What specifically interests me in his work is that he has given the photographs a hauntingly ghost-like aesthetic by using a murky milk glass and looking up at them gives it an trapped feeling as he has just capture hands and feet. At this point in my project I have gained ideas on what I want the subject of my photo to be as he has used an interesting angle in his work as it seems as if we are looking up.This artist specifically contributes to my ideas towards the second photobook I will be making .
This was a task set in class to analyse any photograph by any artist and analyse even the smallest details of a photograph and help us see photos from other peoples perspectie whether theyre complex or simple to analyse. So from one of the artists I've researched I have answered several questions to gain more of an insight on the way the artist shoots his photos.
What do you see in this photograph? In this photograph I see a pair of hands hidden by poor visibility using a glass How has the photographer dealt with space and time? There is only one focus in the photo this allows the viewer to be drawn to the subject because of the white empty space surrounding it What words would you use to describe this photograph? simple, daunting, forbidding What title would you give to this photograph? What made you decide on that title? I would give this photograph the title of escape as the hands represent someone being trapped behind and has the the viewer feeling as if we cant do anything because we are on the other side of the glass How would you describe this photograph to a person who could not see it? A silhouette of hands against a milky glass almost looking as if theyr'e trapped behind a glass and trying to escape How has the photographer captured the play of light in this image? The light in this photograph seems to be positioned behind the glass so that the hands appear as shadows What do you think is effective about this photograph? What doesn’t work so well? I think the contrast between the black and white in the photo helps emphasise the silhouettes in the photos What do you think other people would say about this work? Why do you think that? I think other people would say that it seems very mysterious to just capture hands and feet and no other parts of the human body this makes it seem as if these specific features create a sense of suspision. How is this picture different from real life? To create sharp silhouettes like this certain settings are needed to help adjust the exposure so that the outlines of the shadows appear darker whereas in real life it wouldn't appear as dark Which part of the photograph strikes you as most interesting - captivating, surprising, puzzling, mysterious? Why? Although its a very simple photos of human features it makes it more mysterious as what you question what story are you trying to tell to your viewers
Graciela Iturbide
Graciela Iturbide is an Mexican photographer born on 16th May 1942.Her love for photography developed from the early age of 11 since then her work focuses on the strong interest in her own cultural environment and features rural vs urban life as well as indigenous life vs modern life. Her work now also exhibits internationally. The photos below show one of her photobooks created in 2016. What specifically interests me about this book is its small intimate format as well as its black and white images, which evidently is silver ink on black cardboard. In my opinion it gives the photos a sense of mystery. At this point in my project I have gained the idea of what size I would like my photobook to be. The theme of this book also lets my vision how a black and white photobook would turn out, although the images are created using silver Ink. What also inspires me is the layout of the book as there is one image across a double spreadsheet hwoever soem images will be spread across a double page.
LOREDANA NEMES
Loredana Nemes is an romanian artist born in the transylvanian town of Sibiu in 1972. Her photographic work began since moving to Berlin in 2001. This features a lot of portrait series representing social themes such as identity and personality for over 15 years. subsequently now her currently exhibits in a lot of museums and galleries across Europe and public and private Berlin collections. What specifically interests me in her work is how she shows the different aspects of humanity in her work personally I think her struggles through escaping her communist country has a had a great impact on her photography. At this point in my project I have gained the idea of shooting black and white portrait photography as I feel like It calls attention to a person’s form or eyes, without the distractions of colour and vibrancy so this will emphasise the my theme of trapped.
DAVID RYLE
David Ryle is london based photographer born in 1978. He started to work on his own from the year 2006 and onwards. His work focuses on the subject of landscapes, people and automobiles but this instance i'm referring to his "steam potraits". His work has been exhibited throughout the years as well as being used for both editorial and advertising campaigns. What specifically interests me in his work is the different types of effects hes created with his shots such as the water effects and the different types of glas as well as the simple background. At this point in my project I have gained the idea of recereating the effects on a potraiture shoot with photoshop as this will give the photos the impression as if the person is behind a glass, in my opinion this correlates with the idea of someone being trapped behind a glass which is the theme of my project.

To create my photobook I will be using an online site where you can create print and sell professional quality photobooks rather than a handmade photobook, this is a new site I've never used before so I will do some research on how to use the site. Below is a video that contains useful information on how a book would look by using the blurb site, although its not a detailed step by step instructions its very useful as it gives me an idea on how books created can vary in different ways, as well as tips on what to do and what not to do when creating the book. I also found out that you there is 6 different types of paper available to print your book with this is very useful to me as I think it would be interesting to create two books with different papers and a different size.
